BARNSTAPLE CAMERA CLUB ANNUAL COMPETITIONS

PREMIUM COMPETITIONS

3 Open and 1 Set Subject competition for prints and projected images.

Leading to:
Print Photographer of the Year
& Projected Image Photographer of the Year

Members may enter up to 3 prints and 3 projected images in each competition, judged by an external judge. A new rule this year is that only the points from the highest scoring image, is carried forward towards the accumulative total. The photographer with the highest total in each medium will be awarded Print Photographer of the Year & Projected Image Photographer of the Year. The highest score attainable therefore is 80 points (4 x 20) for each medium.

The member who gains the highest combined mark from the two above competitions is awarded Photographer of the Year. The highest score attainable therefore is 160 points (8 x 20).

Master Photographer

Members can choose six categories from nine offered: Landscape, people, close-up, natural history, movement, record, abstract, animals, and contemporary. They should produce one image which must be new work in either form print or PI, for each chosen category.
The six marks for each member will be added together and the member with the highest total will be awarded the Master Photographer Trophy. Judged by an external judge.

General Rules:
1. Each print must be mounted on a board 40 cm x 50 cm.
2. No print/PI may be entered in more than one premium competition.
3. All entries must be original work of the member.
4. All entries to be titled and have the member’s number and not their name.
5. Digital image size 1400px by 1050px high. Portrait no larger than 1050px high. Jpeg format.
6. An external judge will be used unless stated otherwise.
7. Marks out of 20 are awarded in the Print and Projected Images competitions. Marks out of 10 are awarded in the Master Photographer competition.
8. Hand in dates as shown in winter programme.
9. Any printed image must have a minimum area of 24 square inches after mounting. For example 6” x 4”, 3” x 8” or 2” x 12” etc.
10. There should be no titles or overlays of text on any image unless it is an integral part of the image.

Other Competitions

3 on a Theme
Up to three sets of 3 prints may be entered by a member. Normally the hand in date is one week prior to competition. Each image can only be used in one set in this competition, but may have been used in other competitions. It is up to the member to decide what constitutes a set.
This competition will be judged by an in-house judge.

Landscape
To be interpreted as open vista and can include e.g. seascapes. Up to three images of any sort are admissible. An external judge will pick the winner in each category – print or PI.
Buy a Subject
Members are invited to pay £1.00 and draw subjects “out of a hat”. Up to 3 prints/PI per subject per member will be judged as individual images on subject interpretation and photographic merit. External judge’s decision.

Small Print Competition
Members may enter 3 sets, each set consisting of 4 or more prints – max. 7” x 5” arranged imaginatively. Special presentations are acceptable. Mount size 40 cm x 50cm. In house judge.

Summer Walks
Members may enter up to 3 prints/PI taken during the previous Summer Walks programme. The winners to be judged by member’s vote.

Print and PI of the Year
Members may enter up to 3 images of either type, all having been seen in the current year’s competitions. An external judge will select the winning entries.
